Togolese coach Jonas Kokou Komla is the newly announced head coach of U20 national football team in Djibouti. Komla has already achieved fame coaching Mali’s U17 team, which finished in a good position, has signed a non-fixed contract with an option to renew it after one year and will help Djibouti to develop a viable U20 squad within the framework of Djibouti’s U20 football ambitions aimed at restructuring football in the ultimatum version.
Jonas Kokou Komla is one of those coaches who doesn’t know what the meaning of failure is. He coached Mali’s U17 squad and steered the team to a 4th place in the World Championship. This was proof that he could manage young athletes and construct war-ready groups. Now it is the time for Djibouti and the U20 national squad to be the focus of the football development project and infrastructure of Djibouti.
The in-coup Komla is explained by Djibouti’s broader goal of strengthening the domestic soccer base. Following the lackluster showings registered by the senior national side during the 2017 CAN qualifying series, the Djibouti administration made a bold move and scrapped the senior team and resolved to commence a process of rebuilding boreholes by starting lower age categories.
The purpose of this project is to develop the capacity of the players who can represent the country competitively in the future.
The goal of Komla will be to strengthen them with the U20 team that will act as the base structure of Djibouti’s national teams for years to come. His rich experience and proven records with Mali makes him the right person to mentor the next bunch of crop Djiboutian footballers.
The formation of this U20 team is only the first steps towards an ambition of overhauling football in Djibouti where it is hoped under the leadership of Komla they will have a squad that will be ready to compete in a tournament.
The appointment of Jonas Kokou Komla as the new head coach of the U20 Djibouti team narrows down to the turning point of Djibouti football history. Looking at Komla’s great experience and the assistance of Djiboutian Football Federation, he is all set to provide leadership in putting together a skilled and competitive U20 team that will drive the footballing aspirations of Djibouti.
